Movie Recommendation: Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead

I caught this on Netflix and it’s a great zombie flick. This is my first post and I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but there may be some slight spoilers herein. All you really need to know is it’s a zombie movie from Australia that delivers everything you want in a zombie movie, including gore, humor, a good plot and likable characters.

The action starts fairly quickly, and goes at a fast pace throughout. The beginning is good, but the movie really starts a few minutes in with three women doing a photo shoot in a garage. When two of the women start attacking the third, she fights them off and survives until the morning only to be caught by what she thinks are men there to help her. They capture her to experiment on survivors, but not before she’s able to call her brother to warn him.

After fighting off his own zombie family, her brother goes on a trek to find her, not knowing she’s been captured. He enlists the help of some other survivors, even though he’s reticent at first to trust anyone. It’s not clear at first why the zombie outbreak happened, or why some people turn into zombies while others don’t. But the reason that’s eventually given is solid (as far as zombie movies go), and the core of the movie. It’s funny to boot, and the humor doesn’t distract from the movie at all — it adds to it, in a really good way.

I won’t give away anything else, except to say that if you like fast-moving zombies, Australian accents, and bad-ass women, then you should definitely check it out.
