Both Scream TV and Scream Queens had enjoyable but decidedly uneven first seasons. While both will get second seasons to try to perfect a formula that successfully transfers what is so great about slasher movies into something that fits a TV format, a new show on the Chiller network may beat them to the punch.
For one, their slasher the Executioner is by far the most imposing and frightening of the current crop of TV slashers.
That is a creepy dude, though it does limit the suspect pool to 9 foot tall men with sinister looking eyes. I don’t see how he would be hard to find.
Also the trailer suggests that while there is an overarching mystery, each victim and potential victim has their own secrets and stories as to why the Executioner is after them. Both Scream TV and Scream Queens struggled when they moved away from their main storyline, so hopefully this approach will allow the show to explore all its characters without making people impatient for developments in the main storyline.
Also the trailer hints at some pretty gruesome deaths, something in short supply from the other slasher series. Slasher movies need their ridiculous and hyper violent deaths, and it seems like Slasher might deliver on that front.
I’m excited, and the show premieres in little over a week on March 4 with double episodes.
